The Pine Hollow Bunny Man

Fact or Fiction?

Bunny Man Bridge

The Shuttering of the Pine Hollow Asylum

Pine Hollow hasn't always been the bustling town it is now. Before we became synonymous with air compressors, this was a mostly agrarian village. The County decided a little nowhere town like this was the perfect plact to put an asylum for the criminally insane.

But that all changed in the 1950s, with rapid development reshaping the community. As more people moved to Pine Hollow, folks grew uneasy with the idea of living in spitting distance of an asylum. Eventually, they were able to force the County's hand. In 1953 the asylum shuttered its doors.

Rounding Up the Escapees

That Fall, the inmates were loaded onto a bus to be transported to a new facility far outside the town's borders. But the bus never made it to its destination. Instead, the police found it turned over on the outskirts of town with the inmates nowhere to be seen.

Over the next few days, the police department cast a wide search net. Many were injured and hadn't wandered very far. By the end of the week, they had rounded up nearly all of the inmates. Only two remained unaccounted for: Adam Finch and Harrison Hopper.

Beware the Bunny Man

As the police searched the forest, they discovered a trail of dead, half-eaten rabbits. That trail led them to the body of Adam Finch, hanging from the now infamous "Bunny Man Bridge." Rumor has it they found hatchet wounds all over his torso.

The police never located Hopper. And over the next few years, sporadic reports emerged of mutilated bunnies found hanging from the forest trees. They say anyone who wandered too far into those woods was chased away by a crazed hermit with a bloody hatchet.

Urban Myth? Or Coverup?

You won't find reports about Hopper in the official record. The police claim he never existed. Its clear why. They're embarrased they let one slip through the cracks and now they're covering up the truth.

These days, the story of the Bunny Man is treated like an urban legend. Teenagers dare each other to visit the Bunny Man's Bridge on cold Autumn nights.

But if you find yourself in the woods and happen across a dead bunny, beware. Turn around, or risk becoming the Bunny Man's latest victim.

Eye witness account

"He looked like a cross between Conan the Barbarian and Davy Crockett... only it was a skinned bunny hat instead of a racoon. We made brief eye contact, and it was like I was staring into an abyss. His face contorted with rage and he chased after me with a bloody hatchet in his hand. I've never been so scared in my life. I ran until I couldn't run anymore and never set foot in those woods again."
